Meet Kate Coburn

What kind of classes do you teach?

Currently, I teach Cardio Dance Fitness at Bounce Society in Costa Mesa!

I am also certified to teach Zumba, sports conditioning/bootcamp, strength classes, and cardio kickboxing.

Where were you raised and where do you currently live? Age, if ok.

I was born and raised in New York, specifically on Long Island. I moved to Orange County, CA almost a year ago because it was always a dream of mine to live in Southern California. I’m 26 years old, have been dancing since I was 5, and teaching group fitness for 8 years.

What motivates you to get up in the morning?

I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself a “morning person” but it’s definitely easier to jump out of bed when I have something exciting planned for the day. Some of those things for me include a fun workout class, coffee/lunch with a friend, a local event, or a quick getaway. Also, my new favorite thing to do during the week is go on a walk around my neighborhood before I dive into my work for the day.

Is there a book you’re reading right now?

Currently, “The Universe Has Your Back” by Gabrielle Bernstein. Also, I’ve read “The Five Love Languages” by Gary Chapman a bunch of times, and always take something new from it each time I dive back in.

If you could only do two workouts a week, what would it be?Dance is my favorite type of cardio, which is why I created my cardio dance fitness class. Recently, I’ve branched out and started taking Megaformer classes. I love the low impact but INTENSE burn I get from every class!

Is there a teacher that you love learning from?

I love being the “student” in the fitness world. I started a page @eatplayliftOC where I try different workout studios (and restaurants/events) locally to give people an idea of what to expect and inspire them to branch out to try something new.

I took a class from Shayne T (@shayn3t) at Barry’s Bootcamp in Irvine and had the BEST time! His playlist and cueing was so on point. I really appreciate when instructors take the time to create a bomb playlist and are attentive to everyone in the room throughout the class. He nailed it!

What is your favorite way to spend a day outdoors?

A huge part of why I moved to Southern California is the weather, so I love any excuse to be outside! I love to walk down by the beach, eat outside at restaurants (preferably near the water), go on local hikes, or take walks around my neighborhood.

Are there any charities you support?

When I was in NY, I partnered with Girls Inc. because I love their mission “to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.” I recently discovered that they also have a chapter in Orange County, so I am looking to get involved here as well.

Where can we find you teaching classes?

Cardio Dance Fitness at Bounce Society in Costa Mesa on Tuesday evenings from 5:30pm-6:30pm! Follow along @eatplayliftOC to see where I’m working out when I’m not teaching!

Last, what is in your gym bag?

My Swell water bottle, deodorant, chapstick, extra hair ties, make up remover wipes, and usually an extra sports bra or shirt in case I’m super sweaty after a class!
